Here are some tips to help you in removing the chocolate stains, so that you don’t have to worry when it falls accidently on your carpet.
- The first step will be, with the help of a spoon or edgeless end of a bone scraper scrape away the solid or semi-solid stain. Make sure you don’t use a knife to scrape it as the knife has sharp edges and it can damage the pile of fibres.
- Use a clean white towel or cloth with rubbing alcohol to blot the area. Change the sides of towel everytime you blot until the stain is transferred to the towel.
- Take one-fourth teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and mix it with water. With a clean white towel, soak the mixture and blot the stain. And as mentioned in the previous step change the sides of towel until the stain is transferred to towel.
- In one cup of lukewarm water, mix two tablespoons of ammonia. Now, with the help of clean white towel soak the mixture. Using that towel blot the stain until the stain is transferred to the towel. Avoid ammonia if you having a wool carpet as it can damage the fibres. When you did by blotting, rinse the area thoroughly when the stain is invisible.
- Take one teaspoon of powdered laundry detergent and mix it with one cup of water. With an old clean toothbrush scrub the mixture gently into the pile of the carpet from the outside of the stain inwards. Now, rinse the area by cleaning it with the cold water until the lathers are gone.
- Make a paste of borax and water and apply it on the stain with the help of a toothbrush, lightly working the paste into the fibres. When you are done, allow the carpet air dry.
- Now mix half cup 3% hydrogen peroxide with teaspoon ammonia. To saturate the stain, spray or sponge it onto the stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. Rinse it using club soda. Avoid ammonia on wool carpets as it will harm the fibres and don’t use hydrogen peroxide on dark colours of carpet as it can have a bleaching effect.
- When the stain is completely invisible, rinse it with cold water by sponging thoroughly.
- Use clean white paper towels or cloths to blot up any excess liquid. You must then allow the area to air dry.
