Imagine a relaxing evening at home with dimmed lights, soothing music playing in the background and scented candles adding more comfort to your mood. Or organised an event in your home and decided to decorate it with candles. Candles are beautiful decorations adding warmth and ambience to your space and making it appear like a dream. And the dream gets over when you wake up and find the wax candles have melted all over your carpet or you have just had a wax accident. It would make you panic. When it comes it to “wax on carpet” situation, anyone would. This because after a wonderful time in candlelight it might be tough coping up with ways to remove wax from your carpet. Removing wax from carpet can be extremely difficult if not approached in a right method. Here are some methods to get rid of wax from your carpet:
Freezing Technique
- Method #1
Method 1 is applicable when you see the hot wax falling on your carpet. You need to act as quick as possible to remove the wax from your carpet.
Step 1: Fill a plastic bag with Ice or you can also use chilled water bags.
Step 2: Place this bag directly on the wax stain.
Step 3: Let the bag rest on the area where was spilled for few minutes. This ensures that the wax has frozen.
Step 4: Remove the ice bag and scrape off the wax using a knife. Make sure you do not use a sharp knife as it could cause damage to carpet or can also cause an accident.
Step 5: Once all the wax is scrapped off, spray some carpet cleaning spray.
Step 6: Scrapping wax using a knife causes distress on carpet fibre. You should vacuum your carpet to bring back the original texture of the carpet.

- Method #2
Step 1: Scrap of the excess wax while it is still wet. Use a knife or scrapping tool to do it.
Step 2: Put some ice in a plastic bag and place it on the wet wax.
Step 3: Allow the ice bag to rest for few minutes till the wax has hardened.
Step 4: Now use a knife to scrap off any excess wax from the carpet.
Step 5: Use carpet cleaning spray or cleaning agent spray, once the wax is gone.
Melting Technique
Melting method is just the opposite of freezing method. You need to melt of the wax to remove it from the carpet.
Step 1: Place a brown paper bag, terry cloth or a sheet of newspaper on the area where the wax was spilled.
Step 2: Place a layer of newspaper or paper towels on the area surrounding the wax stain to protect it from heat and stop the mess from spreading. This layer should be below the paper bag on which you will use the iron.
Step 3: Set your iron on warm setting. Avoid using too much heat on your carpet. Now iron the wax stain area slowly. The brown bag or terry cloth will absorb the wax that melts in the process. Keep moving the paper bag or cloth as the spot becomes saturated. If you keep on ironing on the same spot, the paper or cloth will stop absorbing wax after some time. When you see stains appearing on the paper have stopped, lift the paper to see the carpet spot. If there is still some wax left, repeat the ironing process till the wax is gone.
Step 4: Spray some cleaning agent and wipe the carpet clean.
Tips
If the stain is left (due coloured wax), rub the stained area with some rubbing alcohol this will help you to remove the colour. However, you must not use too much rubbing alcohol as it could damage the carpet fibre. After the stain is gone spray some cleaning solvent, dab the area with a tissue or clean cloth. Use fresh water to remove any leftover residue and then dab it to dry it out. When using the ironing method never use steam settings of iron on the carpet.
